October 2015 - St Helens

St Helens group were hosting a special weekend in October with a public showing of "Meet the Mormons", a youth service project, family history stall at the local market and of course church on the Sunday. We stayed at the local caravan park and had a great time playing around on the big jumping pillow down on by the beach. We also visited our favourite little restaurant there, Mohr and Smith....so yummy!
It was a great weekend and so lovely to be with the members there. We stopped by Shelley Beach on the way back like usual, it's an amazing little beach full of beautiful shells and a great place to stop for lunch.

October 2015 - Our first platypus sighting

Our friend Liz walks her dog Lucy down by the river everyday and has spotted lots of platypus in the shallows by the banks. She told us to head down around 4ish in the afternoon and where to sit and how to look for the bubbles on the surface.
So we headed down with out bikes one sunny afternoon and sat patiently by the bank. The girls lost interest after a while and went to climb trees but Lionel and I sat and sat and sat and finally we saw those little bubbles and ripples and sure enough a little platypus poked his head up for just a second!
Trying to catch it with the camera was a different matter altogether!
After the excitement we finished off the lovely afternoon with a BBQ dinner under the pavilion in Rotary park.

October 2015 - Paper dolls

Rainy inside days are always great for getting out the paper dolls. The girls have created an amazing range of outfits for their little paper girls and there's something for every occasion. They sometimes set up little shops and sell their outfits to each other or have little fashion parades to show off their creations.

October 2015 - Maths competition

Becky decided to enter a maths competition this month that was being hosted by LINC. She had to send in a photo of how she uses maths in her everyday life. We did some pictures of her using division to share out a packet of MM's fairly between her sisters. She even won a prize of a book voucher which she ended up swapping with her older sister for cash!!

October 2015 - A visit from Uncle Glen

Glen took a week's break from his work at the Family History department in Carlingford and decided to come visit us down on the South Island!
We always love having him come stay and couldn't wait to take him to all the usual fun places. We decided to branch out this time and head over to Liffey Falls. It was a rather windy and steep drive there but we braved it and it sure was worth it. After a yummy picnic lunch of chicken rolls we started to explore the falls. It's such an amazing place, you feel like you're walking in a scene from Jurassic Park.

Later on in the week we headed to Heritage Forest for a play in Launceston. We had discovered this park just recently when I went on an excursion with Mary. It's a fabulous place to play and has a great flying fox. We all had a turn, even me!

September 2015 - Mary's lego people

We came in one day to find this cute little lego family smiling at us from the bookshelf. 2D lego has been the new thing around here. So fun and creative! The little cat is my favourite :)

September 2015 - Book Week

Book Week is certainly a highlight of the school year here at our house. As soon as one is over for the year the girls start planning the following years costumes! Hannah is rather sad for next year because they don't celebrate Book Week at High School in the same way as they do at the Primary School.  Introducing this years characters,
Star Bellied Sneetch from Dr Suess's "The Sneetches"
Juliet from William Shakepeare's "Romeo and Juliet"
Doris from Enid Bylton's "Twins at St Clares"
